Prunus Cerasifera Stump Removal and Surface Root Grinding in Trull, Taunton
This week we completed a stump grinding project in Trull, near Taunton, for a longstanding client.
The tree, a Prunus cerasifera (Cherry Plum), had unfortunately become diseased and required removal. Following the tree work, the remaining stump and associated surface roots needed to be removed to allow the area to be fully redeveloped as part of a landscaping project.
The Challenge
As well as the main stump, the tree had developed a number of large diameter surface roots extending beyond the immediate base of the trunk. These roots had created a substantial rooting footprint and would have remained an obstacle to any future planting or landscaping work if left in place.
The objective was therefore not only to remove the stump itself, but also to eliminate the visible surface root network throughout the affected area.
The Solution
Using our FSI B22 stump grinder, we systematically ground out the main stump and traced the larger surface roots to ensure all visible traces were removed.
The FSI B22 is particularly well suited to this type of work, allowing us to tackle both the main stump and extensive surface rooting efficiently while minimising disruption to the surrounding garden.
Once the grinding work was completed, the area was left ready for the next phase of the project.
The Finished Result
The final stage of the transformation was carried out by the client, who redesigned the planting area and replaced the original tree with two different varieties of container grown Japanese Acer.
The result is a complete change in character for this part of the garden, demonstrating how the removal of a diseased tree and stump can create opportunities for new planting and landscape improvements.
